Assemblies

EPI Magnet is a great partner for the creation of your advanced magnetic assemblies in addition to being a provider of magnets.

EPI can offer OEM services for magnetic assemblies, including complete design solutions and technical assistance depending on your needs for the assemblies’ functionality, from a single prototype through mass manufacturing. With just a few pieces of information, such as an initial design sketch, size restrictions, working conditions, and electrical limitations, we can bring your tiny conceptual ideas to life. Please get in touch with us if you need help from professionals.

The following are some of the regular magnetic assemblies

What are Magnetic Assemblies

A magnetic assembly is a magnetic “device” or “system” that combines non-magnetic components like stainless steel, titanium alloys, and plastics with permanent magnets (such NdFeB and SmCo magnets) to carry out a certain function.

Complex machining is challenging because permanent magnets are a hard and brittle metal. It is difficult to integrate even very basic functionalities into the magnet itself. So we need to develop magnetic assemblies to transform the magnetic field into the proper “tool” in order to accomplish a particular purpose.

Designing and Manufacturing of Magnetic Assemblies

Magnetic assemblies development requires an extensive knowledge base related to magnetic materials, as well as a great wealth of experience in manufacturing and installation.

The following points should be taken into consideration when designing and manufacturing magnetic assemblies to achieve specific functions:

Operating environment

A high level of corrosion resistance is necessary throughout the assemblies in harsh conditions. This covers the coating or plating of the magnets as well as the ability of other non-magnetic parts to resist corrosion.

Operating temperature

Temperature has impact on magnets characters. Working temperature range has to be taken into consideration during the design of the assemblies, such as magnet materials (e.g. NdFeB or SmCo) and grades selection. The thermal properties of the non-magnetic components are also the thing you need to think of.

Magnetic field optimization

Because the density and force of the magnetic field is not linear with the distance, this requires our experienced software engineers to design, simulate and verify with reliable software.

Machining difficulties

Those experienced in magnets manufacturing may not be good at machining the non-magnetic parts (such as refractory metals, stainless steel, copper, aluminum and their alloys, etc.) into complex shapes with tight tolerances. Meanwhile, the manufacturer of non-magnetic products barely know about the technical details of magnets. EPI is such an excellent magnetic assembly supplier with the very vertically integrated capabilities on magnets production and non-magnetic materials machining to provide a professional service with quality controlling, quick response, cost reduction and shortened lead times.

Assemble difficulties

Neodymium magnets are known to be extremely difficult to be fixed in place for assembly. As an example, assembling powerful neodymium magnets to a rotor or yoke requires various adhesives. Without well-designed assembly fixtures, it may result in improper adhesion of magnets to other parts, poor glue bonding, magnet malposition, or magnet demagnetization during the curing process. This will cause higher defect rates, higher costs, and lower efficiency in the finished products.

As the precision and complexity of the assemblies increase, more difficulties may arise. The development process requires expertise in the field of magnetic materials and plenty of experience in the design and manufacturing of assembly tools & magnetizing fixtures.

With over 20 years of design and manufacturing experience, EPI has become a reliable North American supplier of leading-edge magnetic assemblies.
